As Albert Einstein said, the definition of insanity is doing something over and over and expecting a different result. The Industry Transformation Agenda is a new approach to address challenges the New Zealand building and construction industry has been grappling with for some time.
This group recognised our building and construction industry was fragmented and inflexible, and struggled with skills shortages, boom and bust cycles, procurement issues and uneven risk allocation. It also lagged behind other industries in using technological opportunities and digital innovations.
The goal was to develop a way for the building and construction industry to embrace quality, efficiency and technology to create a better future for everyone the industry touches.
New Zealand is far from unique in having a building and construction industry that is not fit for purpose in the 21st Century: it’s a global problem. In fact, the World Economic Forum is focusing on global reform of the entire construction industry and to this end developed a global industry agenda.
Drawing closely from this work, the team developed a New Zealand specific Agenda. After consulting widely with our industry to refine it, the team launched the Agenda in August 2017 at the industry forum Constructive 17. It received overwhelming support from conference attendees.
The various videos presented at Constructive 17 demonstrate the compelling case for transforming our industry.
