Adopt new technologies

New technology has the potential and power to transform the way we work. It can increase productivity, reduce costs and improve the built environment. We know there is energy and interest in the building and construction industry to explore new technologies.

Scope

This priority area explores how the industry can better embrace new technology, allowing us to increase productivity, reduce costs and construct even better buildings and environments. It investigates how to:

  • Address barriers to uptake of new technologies
  • Help the industry explore, test and employ new technology
  • Mitigate the risks of deployment of old technology
  • Introduce new business models to support new technology

Measuring success

We want to achieve the following shifts:

  • Address the barriers to uptake of new technologies such as our risk-averse consenting system and the lack of scale, skills and innovation culture in the industry
  • Help the industry explore, test and employ new technology
  • Mitigate the risks of deployment of old technology

With artificial intelligence and automation coming for us all, what will be left for us, the humans in the midst of these intelligent machines?

This is a hard question and like all hard questions, sometimes our first instinct can be denial. But let's not bury our heads in the sand, because if we don't get into the act, others will - and they will redefine and re-engineer our world. The future will challenge us. But if we face into it, we might have a chance of catching its wave. That's why we need to transform.
